Nigel started playing percussion at the age of thirteen, and never really stopped.
He played for both amateur and semi-professional shows and with artists in
working mens' clubs. He has been playing with JFCB for the last five years.
Gill Arnett - Vice-Chair
I started playing the flute age 8, I have played with the Cumbria
County Youth Orchestra, Harrogate Symphony Orchestra amongst other
groups. I have played with JFCB since 2001 and play flute, piccolo
and occasionally alto saxophone.
Vernon Mais - JFCB Musical Director
Formerly principal clarinettist, Vernon took over as Director of Music in

Jerome Masters - Deputy Conductor
Jerome joined JFCB in 2005 and plays Solo Cornet with the band.
In recent years Jerome has played with the Durham University Student
Brass Band and the University of Southampton Concert Band. Jerome is
also a former Bandmaster of Wareham Town Band, Dorset.
Jim Quinn, JFCB Bookings

Jane Woodhead - Band Manager
I have been playing clarinet with the JFCB for several years now.
Rehearsals and concerts are fun. We are a friendly group of muscicians
who enjoy playing together.
Marc Dunleavy - Secretary
Marc joined the band in January 2007 and is involved in a number of
other musical groups.
Lesley Mais - Treasurer
Lesley has played clarinet in the band for several years after first
playing in a concert band at Leeds College of Music. She also plays in
the Alwoodley Sinfonia.
Lesley is a keen campanologist, ringing the bells at St.Matthew's
(Chapel Allerton) regularly, and at other churches in the region.
Peter Smailes, JFCB Librarian
In addition to being the band librarian, Peter has played clarinet, bass clarinet and flute in the band over the years. He currently plays principal clarinet. Peter catalogues and repairs all sheet music, orders new music and stores all the band's music. We are keen to hear from other bands who may wish to 'compare notes'
